An Upper Hunter business operator has told a parliamentary inquiry the State and Federal Governments have left our region to die with the pending closure of the coal industry.

“We need to create new investment, We need to create new opportunities. We have been the powerhouse for so long but we need to start doing more,” Mr Fordham said.

“If we look at the gap between now and when the nuclear power station will be built the best thing the government can do right now is go through the bullshit that we’ve got sitting on our system and cut the red tape to allow the mining industry to continue to do what we’ve done for so long in this region'” he said.
