Council defends roadworks program

Upper Hunter Shire Council has defended its decision to start repairs on the road between Scone and Merriwa at the Scone end.

Merriwa residents expressed anger to the Hunter Valley Newsroom over the decision citing the horrendous condition at their side of town compared to Scone.

But General Manager Greg McDonald said Council has the funds to undertake a combination of heavy patching across the shire including for programmed works at Merriwa’s end on Bunnan Road.

He said in addition they have 500-thousand dollars set aside this year for reconstruction of the sections that can’t be heavy patched around the Murdering Hut end of the road.
