A fine and an official caution for Muswellbrook Shire Council from the environmental watchdog.
The EPA has ordered the council to pay $8,000 over a leak of ferric sulphate at the Muswellbrook Water Treatment Plant earlier this year.
The agency says in March between 2500 and 3000 litres of the corrosive liquid leaked from a hole in a storage tank and spilled.
