Upper Hunter Deputy Mayor Pat Ryan said the council is moving as quickly as it can to conduct an ‘expressions of interest process’ to determine the future of Merriwa’s only nursing home.
Gumman Place Hostel has left a debt of $2-million for ratepayers over the past five years due to the cost of complying with increased accreditation standards.
Councillor Ryan said pressure needs to also be placed on the Federal Government to help fund the facility.

“The community must work shoulder to shoulder with the council to ensure the best outcome for Gumman Place,” he said.
