The ringleader of a jail gang responsible for bashing the murderer of a Muswellbrook woman has been given an additional minimum one-month behind bars.
Carly McBride’s murderer Sayle Kenneth Newson was in the maximum security wing of Cessnock Correctional Centre in June 2021 when the beating occurred.
The Herald reports…Richard Exton told the court he was motivated to act after hearing details about the crime.
He was one of three people charged over the attack and he pleaded guilty in December to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm while in company.
Magistrate Ian Rodgers set a maximum sentence of 15-months but with time served Exton was eligible for release yesterday afternoon.
