The New South Wales Nurses and Midwives Association has claimed a minor victory following its protest over the removal of new operating theatres and sterilisation area from the Muswellbrook Hospital Redevelopment.
The decision was made by health bureaucrats after revealing the project’s budget had blown out by 15 million dollars because of rising building costs.
The union’s local branch rep Peggy Smith said a meeting with officials has resulted in a temporary solution to ensure the current ageing theatres can be used for a little longer.

“They’ve also undertaken to rethink the redevelopment design plans and come back with an update in the coming weeks,” she said.
