Merriwa residents are backing moves by a local councilor to improve the quality of water supplied to the town and nearby Cassalis.
Councillor Troy Stolz will move a motion at tonight’s Upper Hunter Shire Council meeting to seek urgent funding to upgrade the current heavy bore water servicing the towns.
Resident Brad Foster said the water they are supplied by the council is disgusting.
“If Mayor Collison wants to come and have a schooner of Merriwa’s finest tap water I invite him,” he said.
“We can sit down. He can bring his clothes out here and wash them in it then maybe after that we can go out to Cassalis for a dark ale because I hear the water out there is brown. It’s smelly, it’s visually revolting.”
