Hunter Valley Operations has rejected claims by environmentalists that they have given up on extending the life of their Singleton coal mines for another 25 years.
Hunter Renewal claimed HVO withdrew their application for an extension till 2050.
The application is, in fact, still being assessed by the state’s planning body.
The coal mine’s manager Dave Foster said only the paperwork with Canberra has been temporarily taken off the table so they can update it then re-submit it.
He said the new temporary 18-month extension for HVO North was only lodged because the longer application is still being assessed.
HVO currently employs almost 1500 workers at the North and South coal mines and last year contributed $2 billion into the economy.
