Revelations this morning about budget management practices at Upper Hunter Shire Council.
The Corporate Services Committee has endorsed a move by General Manager Greg McDonald to borrow $10-million from the water and sewer funds to pay for other council costs.
The internal loan required approval by the Office of Local Government, was granted on June 27 this year, and is required to be paid back within 12 months.
The council says $2.5 million has already been paid back through the recovery of outstanding debts from the 2023/2024 financial year.
We asked the council what specifically the money was spent on but we were just referred to the minutes.
